Popular Painkiller Tramadol
Tramadol, made in the late 70’s by Grunenthal GmbH (a German pharmaceutical company), was regarded to be safer than opioid analgesics. Tramadol still targeted the opioid receptors, but its reputation for being synthetic, man-made, and a milder alternative to popular narcotic pain relievers gave it an edge.
Uses
Arthritis and other ailments with moderate to severe pain can be treated with Tramadol medications. Due to its interaction with the noradrenergic and serotonergic systems which allows it to affect the perception of pain, studies have proven the effectiveness of Tramadol in the treatment of depression and anxiety.
Side Effects
Skin that is blistering, red, or peeling, and a weak pulse along with breathing that is shallow, are side effects that are dangerous and serious, and require immediate medical attention. Minor, more manageable side effects are: dizziness, sleepiness, general fatigue, vomiting, loss of sleep and appetite, imperfect eyesight, skin flushes, facial itching.
Withdrawal
Tramadol was considered to be a non-addictive, safe, alternative to opiod pain killers, since it was created. It is only recently that people have understood the dangerous potential for addiction that these drugs carry, particularly after prolonged and heavy use. Withdrawal symptoms associated with Tramadol are the following: seizure, excessive sweating, nervousness and anxiety, tingling in the extremities, dizziness, vomiting, chronic diarrhea, loss of sleep and appetite, and hypertension. Prior to the change of the amount consumed per day, medical assistance should be sought by the users, or abusers before ceasing their intake. A doctor-supervised “taper”, or a planned resolution to gradually reduce dosage over a set period of time, depending on use history, is the method advised for weaning an individual off the drug; since sudden changes in intake routines, or abrupt quitting can dangerously manifest in a wide host of medical issues.
Tramadol popularly remains the only potentially addictive painkiller still offered by online pharmacies with no prescription required.
Ultram and Ultracet also need to be included on the list of “brand name” tramadol drugs.
