Do you Provide Incentives and Rewards
By recognizing the students’ fitness achievements, you accomplish three important things. First, you reinforce their dedication and motivate them to set new fitness goals. Second, you urge other members to strive for similar achievements. Third, the students become aware that you honor them as individuals and that you care about their progress.
The rewards you offer can take many forms. A student-of-the-month selection can be featured on your bulletin board with a picture and short article about the accomplishment. Prizes, such as club T-shirts, water bottles, socks and gift certificates are inexpensive ways to reward not only weight loss, but class attendance and member recruitment.
The value further increases when you accompany positive feedback with specific reasons. For instance, instead of “Good job,” say “Good job — your form was great.”
